Welcome to el Gotic, the place found in the heart of the old city of Barcelona. Surrounded by a complex network of smaller and larger charming alleys lined with friendly bars, cafés and restaurants, as well as fancy boutiques, shops and other attractions, this is the place to visit if you are looking for some authentic feel of the Catalonian past.
To start with, you’re bound to be amazed by the number of examples of sacral architecture found in the vicinity. Churches like Esglesia de St Jaume, Santa Maria del Pi , the Roman Catholic Archidiocese of Barcelona and Barcelona Cathedral are not only fantastic sights to visit, but can also serve as landmarks to navigate you through this picturesque district.
Apart from that, you should pay a visit to the nearby Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art or CCCB and – beside the obvious profit in the form of opportunity to see some works of art at high level – witness some more ‘street’ attractions, like skateboarders jumping off the massive local stairs or flamenco dancers performing their moves on the local square.
Moreover, the close distance to Placa Reial will keep you happy if you wish to pursue some quality nightlife, and the nearby beach of Barceloneta offers not only some breathtaking views on the horizon, but also a range of fine mojito and tapa bars.
